Spiritual Warfare Made Simple by Praying Medic. 2026 194 pgs This the 10th in a series of Christian books he has written. He was a paramedic and healing minister for over 20 yrs. and did many healings in the ambulance. Chap. 1 The Spiritual World. You are a spirit, clothed in a body and governed by a soul. There are both the spiritual and physical realms. Our spirit is always receiving, interpreting and transmitting signals in the spiritual domain, even if you don’t realize it. He key is to train one’s mind to be aware of some of this. Just as the military uses satellites, radar, sonar and other intelligence, we are equipped with senses, including visions,, words, smells, temperature changes from God, angels, demons and devil forces. Evil spirits often referred to in the bible as demons a subject of debate. He believes that  demons are disembodied spirits of the Nephilim, offspring of rebellious angels and human women described in Gen. 6:1-4. These hybrid  beings were  never meant to exist. When their physical bodies died, their spirits remained on earth, restless, seeking re-embodiment. Fallen angels, by contrast, are heavenly beings who remained much of their  power and operate mainly in the heavens.  A demon may have a sulfur like odor. They also use telepathic communication, and we may have a thought  impression or an intuitive knowing. They are under Satan. To ban them, we need a firm faith, without unbelief and to command them to leave. The word demon appears many time in the bible. An internet search revealed this about demons: In Mark 5:12, Legion-a powerful demon or group of demons-begs Jesus to let them enter a herd of pigs rather than remain disembodied. This is strange behavior for angels, who operate perfectly well in spiritual form. Point #2: Why do demons seek “rest” in embodiment? Matthew 12:43-44 describes a demon wandering through “arid places seeking rest” and then returning to “the house I left” (a human body). This restlessness when unembodied doesn’t match what we know about fallen angels, like Satan.  Chap. 2 What is a Spirit? In 2008 he felt something restraining him, in sleep and when his wife commanded it to leave, it did. Then he knew demons are real and knows to ban them. We do not fight alone; angels are sent by God to carry messages, battle demons and assist in healing. Gender confusion can be caused by a fallen angel. Also and angel may assist in our witness for Christ. Chap. 3 Angels in Warfare. Scripture tells of angels as participants in the conflict between good and evil. They can break people out of prisons, shut the mouth of lions, and deliver intelligence under fire. Col. 1:6 tells of thrones, dominions, principalities, and powers, both in the angelic and demonic realms. The Prince of Persia delayed answer to Daniel’s prayer for 21 days; Dan. Chap.10, but angel Michael helped deliver him. Angels also helped Elisha. Chap. 4 The Soul in the Theater of War. Trauma is more than a single emotional pain. It creates emotional wounds in the soul that makes us vulnerable to spiritual attack. When lies and wounds take up residence long enough, they become strongholds, as in 2 Cor. 10:4-5. Then when a minor wound or rejection occurs again, it triggers an emotional reaction. It becomes an easily triggered cycle of hypersensitivity. Jesus can destroy mental strongholds. To fix it, begin by bringing an old trauma to mind again and then ask Jesus to remove it. Then recall the same event again and see if your reaction is gone or less.p, p.27. Repeat as needed. More details are found in his book on Emotional Healing. Chap. 5 The Enlistment. When you gave you life to Christ you enlisted in His kingdom, which is against the devil’s kingdom. He compares this to a military enlistment and cites 2Tim. 2:3-4 “Join me in suffering like a good soldier of the Messiah Jesus.  No one serving in the military gets mixed up in civilian matters, for his aim is to please his commanding officer.” Soldiers are assigned a rank, a unit and a mission. You are transferred from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light, not by your own merit, but by grace and training. In the military there is a chain of command. Freelancing is not allowed. Jesus is the head and under him are apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers and evangelists.- given to equip believers for the work of the ministry. You may not always know why you are called to intercede, deliver a word, or engage in prayer over a given situation, but you need to obey God’s lead. In modern warfare, orders come through radios, encrypted  messages, mission briefings, and direct commands. Some missions are long term, and others are urgent and time sensitive. God directs his missions by scripture, prayer, dreams, visions, prophetic words and the inner prompting of the Holy Spirit. Jesus says His sheep hear his voice and they follow Him. You may be asked to pray for friend, confront a lie, do a healing, or speak truth into a situation. You may not know the full scope of what your obedience did, but it can move a lot more in the spirit than you realize. No soldier is sent to the front lines without equipment-armor, weapons, communication gear, and are trained for months how to use it. Eph. 6 tells some of your armor and weapons. The gifts of the Spirit and the authority of Christ must be learned and practiced. A rusty or poorly trained soldier is a liability in battle. When trained they are sent on missions and into battle. Believers are not meant to sit in the pews forever. God is not looking for spectators. He wants those who know his spiritual laws, obey his voice, and wield his authority. Chap. 6 Identity. In the spiritual world your identity is key. Do you see yourself in Jesus? Most believers shrink at the thought. Paul wrote imitate me, just as I imitate Christ. You are not only saved from sin, but also saved into son-ship. Identity and authority go together. Satan wants to distort and limit your identity, and make you think you are much less than identity in Christ. What you think is what you become. When you humbly walk in Christ’s identity, you will a blessing to some and a threat to others. Some will criticize you. Jesus did not seek recognition from people. His identity was secure in God. Your goal is not to please man. Do not take offense at some criticism. Helping people find their true self in God is a blessing.(He had a dream of this). Chap. 7 Divine Assignments. These may be permanent or temporary. You might meet someone by chance and give a word to encourage. He tells of his first job to heal the sick, and its progression. Don’t leave the temporary ones to soon. Some come as a whisper or nudge. Chap 8. Renouncing and Rebuilding. Accepting a false identity, not agreeing with God’s, causes us problems. Though Gideon was filled with fear, God called him a mighty warrior. Peter was called the rock, but denied Jesus. God wants us to live by our new given identity; but Satan tries to tell us otherwise. If you speak negatively of yourself, you agree with Satan. We need to reject his lies and speak our true identity often. God wants to transform us. Your identity is given by God and reinforced each day you agree with Him. John says- As He is, so are we in this world. Doing this, you will see some changes. Chap. 9 Command and Control. Orders flow from the top down and responsibility from the bottom up. You may think- God is in Control, but this can lead to our passivity.  Good is sovereign, but does not manage everything, but gives us responsibility over ourselves, our family and community. Luke 10:19 ”Look, I have given you the authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy; nothing will ever harm you.” The enemy benefits when we stop taking action. God chooses to partner with us and have us act on the authority He has given us. Chap. 10 Finished but not Final. Jesus did say ‘It is Finished’ and he did defeat the devil, death and sin. Still there is difference between victory won and victory enforced.  Man lost some authority in Adam’s fall, but got some back after Jesus’ resurrection as in Matt. 28:18-19. “Then Jesus approached them and told them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore, as you go, disciple people in all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit,” Satan is defeated but not yet removed from the battlefield. He still opposes our assignments, and causes illness, and accuses us. If we are wise, we can overcome any of Satan’s tactics and be victors. Chap. 11 The Armor of God. He gave a detailed description of the armor we need from Eph. Chap. 6.  God’s righteousness shields us from condemnation and accusation. We are to be prepared to share the gospel and stand our ground. In noting the belt of truth, he cites John 14:25-26 “I have spoken these things to you while I remain with you.  But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit—the Father will send Him in My name-will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you.” On the shield of Faith he notes authority is exercised in faith and that is akin to confidence.  The helmet protects our minds from bad thoughts and replacing with good ones. The sword of the spirit the sword is both words of the bible and the rhema the HS. Chap. 12 Faith, Deliverance and Healing. Faith is confidence in God. As you develop faith in some situations it will spread to others, like a mustard seed grows to a big tree. Deliverance is the removal demonic influence from a person or demons. They gain access through sin, emotional wounds, trauma, addiction, fear, and occult involvement. One needs to command them to leave with faith in Jesus’ name. Without faith they won’t leave as in Acts 19:14. Physical healing comes faith in Jesus and from the Holy Spirit. Before praying for someone ask the HS about it. Don’t give up too early. If you see improvement keep praying.  Chap. 13 The Prayer Warrior’s Language. There are 2 ways to have more spirit led prayer. 1 ask the spirit what to pray about and then pray to that topic. 2. Pray in tongues the spirit), and benefit from His lead. Praying in the spirit connects us with God and his thoughts and builds one up also.  You may feel some release after you stop. After praying in the spirit, ask God what was the topic? He wants us to know. There are benefits if one prays in our normal thoughts and a partner prays in tongues. And then ask for more interpretation. (this is done after1. above) Chap.14. Prophetic Intercession and Interpretation. Your attention may be drawn to a specific person, but you may not know why. God has given you an assignment. Your burden for this prayer may become intense. The Holy Spirit may prompt you to share a certain bible verse or give words to encourage.  So you complete prayers for someone and feel  relief. You may not know the outcome, but have done your duty. When someone prays in tongues, the Spirit is working through them and if you pause and ask, the spirit may reveal very briefly what was prayed as in 1Cor. 14:5. The interpretation is not word for word, but topical as a thought, impression or even a bible vs. This is helped if you ask specific questions of what was prayed. In addition to interpretation of tongues there is prophetic listening. This is a broader from of listening for God’s instruction or guidance. God may give you pictures or a thought. Many can speak in tongues but have not developed this skill of this listening. Prayer is not a one-way street. God has much to share with us if we are willing to listen. It’s good to write a journal or notes about this. We need to distinguish our own emotions from true godly messages. Chap. 15 Training in Discernment. Strong emotions can be mistaken for the Holy Spirit. Here are 3 types of discernment:  1. Our intuition is valuable, but not always reliable. It is also related to suspicion. 2. the the gift of discerning of spirits as in 1 Cor. 12:10. 3. The 3rd type comes from walking closely with God for yrs. Here we develop sensitivity to His words and how it differs from ours. Discernment should not be used to criticize or correct others, unless you are invited to do so.  Chap. 16 Dreams and Visions God speaks to us by dreams and visions as in Job 33:15-18. They can tell what is coming before arrival.  They can be an assessment of your current position or a warning of enemy activity to come. We need to write them down in a journal. We can ask God for and interpretation later; at first we may not understand them. A 3rd step is to test the revelation; see if you can find a confirmation. Chap 17 Traveling in the Spirit. Here the spirit moves the believer for one place to another for a specific purpose. The Lord did this for Philip in Acts 8. Ezekiel was moved as was John in Rev. 4 These travels were initiated by God. If we know person, we can pray for them remotely.  The author gave examples of doing this using his imagination and accomplishing healings, as he got feedback from the healed. In this case his travel was not physical.  There are counterfeit versions of this called astral projection and remove viewing. Chap. 18 Rules of Engagement. To be effective in spiritual warfare, wait for His guidance and remain in the confines of your assignment. If you listen God will direct these and begins with including yourself, your family, your community. Chap.19 Jurisdictional Authority. If you do well and are responsible in that noted in 18, he may expand your scope, to what you can handle. Chap. 20 Spiritual Covering. The protection and strength comes from both relationships and structure. There is strength in  a group, rather than being alone, and being under a leader. Support may comes from a church leader, a spouse, or friends. Isolation increases your vulnerability to attack. Jesus sent the disciples out 2 by 2, and Paul and Barnabas were sent out by the elders with a church blessing. Chap. 21 Divide and Conquer. the enemy’s strategy is to divide us and hurt relationships and sow offenses. When unity a love is intact, the enemy’s access is limited. It is also possible for the enemy to sow undue pride in a group member or leader. These attacks can limit ones covering. Chap. 22 Partnering with Difficult People. God rarely assembles a group or team who is naturally comparable. Team members may have different temperaments and background and skills and gifts. This can result in group friction. Still the mission of the group is most important, and one causing some friction can offer valuable insights, so it’s often better to try to keep the group together, for the sake of the mission. Consider Gideon, David and the 12 disciples. Chap. 23 Discerning Your Areas of Authority. Some believers may choose to engage in areas where they have not been given authority or neglect areas where they do have authority. Authority is connected to stewardship and location. Your home, neighborhood, workplace are area where you have some responsibility. Parents are over their children, Pastors over their congregation, mentors over their disciples. At times God may give you a sense of care or responsibility for a city, a nation, or a particular cause. If this burden is confirmed through prayer, prophetic revelation, and open doors, it may indicate a new assignment. Some of these burdens are only meant for your   prayer. A sign that this burden is correct, is when you see positive results and sometime results with opposition. Success can come with devil’s attacks. God will only give you what you can, handle so don’t take on too much. Chap. 24 Warfare in the Marketplace. Jesus prayed for Peter while fishing and influenced many. God challenged him to pray in the ambulance for patients. After he had success there, he even prayed a few times in the hospital emergency room. He only got one complaint which was dismissed. We are often fearful of this,(Satan gives us fear) but need to be realist about our limits there. On a slow day he chatted with a paramedic coworker, got her trust and prayed for her back, and healed it. You can pray for individuals, if they give their consent, the courts have upheld this. Chap. 25 Spirit led Mapping. God had given each of us areas of responsibility. They may be tied to your calling, to your life experiences, wounds that God has healed, battles you have fought. Ask yourself what burden or injustice has God put on your heart repeatedly? (that many others overlook). Spiritual mapping is listening to the HS to discern the spiritual condition of a place or situation.  You may identify strongholds, lies, patterns of sin, injustice, crime and enemy activity. Begin by listening to the HS gathering some information and praying about it. 1 Cor. 2:16 ”For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.” Then you may share it with a fellow believer and friend and decide if any action is to be taken. Your role is not to accuse, but share love, truth and peace. You need to discern the obstacles and traps to avoid. This requires a team not a loner. Initially, as with the Navy Seals, they act in silent, with cover. Then they may do something more openly. Praise worship is a powerful weapon, as are open prayers and healings. Chap. 26 Mental Preparedness. The battle begins in the mind, long before the soldier enters the battlefield. The mind determines how far the body can go. The enemy can influence your thoughts and emotions. You must be vigilant about what enters your mind, and train it on godly thoughts., Begin your day by prayer and listening to God; end it by clearing your mind, and affirming God’s peace and guidance. Chap. 27 Rest as Warfare. Today our culture values productivity and activity, while rest is viewed as laziness. God views rest differently and commanded the Sabbath rest. Spiritual rest is a mindset that a reminds you that you are a child of God who trusts Him and spiritual priorities over worldly ones. Jesus often withdrew from the crowds to pray. Rest is necessary for both physical and spiritual health. The Sabbath rest is not necessarily tied to a certain day, note Rom. 14:5-6 As you rest for God, He works in you to re-align your priorities and beliefs. He gave an example of working as a paramedic, where the scenes are bloody and worrisome, but he did not worry, but projected confidence and solutions with assurance to those in worry. His words and confidence helped others to let go of some worry and seek good solutions. He had practiced his duties, and to proceed without worry. Jesus counseled Martha on this and approved of Mary.  At times silence, prayer and reflection is best. Chap 28. Reclaiming Wonder. The settled knowing that you are loved! His spirit is connected to our spirit! The creator of the universe chose to partner with us!  The enemy wants us to forget this. Wonder is a childlike awareness he cares for us and is like the oxygen for our soul.  Where wonder is alive, joy is quickened. Beauty also reminds us of His glory, and the beauty of nature reminds us of his wonder of creation. Stillness can be doorway where some of this enters us as in Ps. 46:10 “Be in awe(still) and know that I am God.   I will be exalted among the nations.” Reclaiming this wonder is a deliberate act. Chap. 29 Growing into New Assignments. Here the author tells of him growing spirituality and getting new assignments.  As we grow in gifts and understanding we may get more assignments. Chap. 20 Divine Transfer Orders. With God, as in the military you may get transferred to a new assignment with little warning or explanation. Abraham was told to leave his home, Joseph had many transfers. Occasionally the Holy Spirit will speak to you about the change, and you will sense God is leading you in a new direction. If you are leaving an old job, pray for those you leave behind and say goodbye to them.  Chap. 31 Inheritance and Legacy. There are  some assignments based on what you are called to establish. This authority shapes a spiritual place, neighborhood, family, organization or ministry and is to remain after you pass away. It may establish a place or cause that remains after you. Examples are Abraham and his descendants and the promised land; David and his Psalms and temple. Paul and his churches; the 12 stones by the Jordan River crossing as in Josh. 4:19-24. The enemy hates this so expect resistance. Chap. 32 Gatekeeping in your Neighborhood. He tells of a friend that wanted to maintain a good neighborhood; He discovered a drug dealer moved in very near. He went to the police, but they could do nothing without a lot of evidence. He talked with his neighbors who, were not much help.  Then he prayed to God about it. He got an image of a gatekeeper, who controls who enters. He felt inspired by the Holy Spirit to pray and make a declaration over his neighborhood. Within 30 days the drug dealers moved out, and a nice family moved in.  Then another house neighbor invited a woman in who had 2 wolves, that were put in an outside enclosure. He wolves proved a danger to the children in the neighborhood. He told the neighbor about it, but they only got angry. Then he prayed with authority that the wolves would be gone. In a week the lady and the wolves left. Chap. 33 Engaging Territorial Spirits. Some cities or territories can be overcome by evil, and are kept that way by spiritual powers. The bible refers to this as principalities, powers, and rulers of darkness. They have laws, institutions, and ideologies that affect them. Daniel’s prayers were delayed for 21 days by the prince of Persia. This was not a human official, but a spiritual  power. Persia was an ungodly place. Paul disrupted the idol trade in Ephesus as in Acts 19. and in Athens as in Acts 17:16-34. Paul first researched the local beliefs and likely prayed against them before he spoke. Paul had coworkers helping him. My summary: (So in reforming a dark area, one needs to feel the call of God, assemble a team, investigate the area beliefs to be refuted, Pray for guidance in refuting them and then refute them in prayer, discern the spirits, then plan your outreach, and then do this with some healing or helping works, preaching the word of God as evangelists.) Missionary’s did this in Potosi, Bolivia, a large mining area, turning a dark area with belief in the devil’s powers into a more christian area. It’s documented in the book ‘Regions of Captivity’. It took about 10 yrs.1991-2001 About 40,790 people there made decisions for Christ. In addition the President of Bolivia, whose administration, was marked by corruption, resigned and died shortly thereafter, and his political parties collapsed. Chap. 34 Cleansing the Land. When territorial spirits are displaced, the work is not over, wounds need to be cleansed and healed. Land is not portrayed as a passive backdrop, it remembers and bears witness, as in Gen. 4:10 “Then He said, “What have you done? Your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground!” In prayer we acknowledge the sins that gave the enemy a foothold and ask the Lord to forgive and remove them. We cancel every ungodly vow and declare that this land belongs to the Lord. Once cleansed the land should be filled with blessings, worship, prayer and righteous activity.  Chap. 35 Intercessory Prayer. There are many types of prayer, and times for use of each. Healing prayer is an exercise of using our authority, commanding sickness to leave. Praying in tongues bypasses our natural mind and draws the Holy Spirit in.  Intercessory warfare against spiritual powers, begins with a sense of assignment by God, confirmation, and asking the H.S. for intelligence about the situation. Praise and worship shifts the atmosphere and draws God’s presence. The word of God carries power that overcomes resistance. The blood of Jesus, removes guilt and cancels accusation. Chap. 36 Worship as Warfare. When we worship in faith, we invite God’s presence into our sphere. His presence can overcome opposition as in 2 Cor. 5:17 “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” Worship is more than praising God it also can overcome darkness and opposition as in Jehoshaphat’s war against his enemies in 2 Chron. 20. In some ways this defies logic. But Worship replaces fear and heaviness, with joy and peace. It invites the manifest presence of God and angels. Worship can cause demons to flee; When David played for Saul, his tormenting spirit departed. Worship declares that you belong to God and that He rules there.  Chap. 37 The Gory of God in Spiritual Warfare. There are 2 aspects of Gods: He is present everywhere and aware of everything. His glory or manifest presence is not everywhere, it can move. It was in the Temple in Jerusalem, it rested on Jesus at his baptism, it descended on the disciples at Pentecost. If there is fear or strife in a situation its good to invite God’s presence. God’s glory can empower intercessors. They can begin with worship and inviting God’s presence, then proceed with prayers as led. In difficult healings, he invites God’s presence first. Peter said the spirit of glory rests upon those who are reproached for sharing the name of Christ in 1 Pet. 4:14. Chap. 38 The Court of Accusation. There are courts in heaven, although they may be unfamiliar to some.  Examples include Job’s trail (Job 1:8-11) before a divine council. And Zechariah’s vision of Joshua being accused by Satan in Zech. 3. Unlike human courts, which are bureaucratic and impersonal, then ones in heaven show intimacy and mercy.  He focuses on the court of accusation. Most encounters in the courts are prompted by the H.S. You may have an awareness of God’s justice or a sense of accusation. In this court God is the judge and Jesus is our advocate, and Satan or an evil spirit is our accuser. Whether or not the charge against you is true is somewhat irrelevant. So avoid the temptation to defend yourself. The purpose is to note your sins, exonerate you, so simply plead guilty, and remind the Judge that the blood of the Lamb takes away your guilt. When the judge issues a not guilty verdict, you may feel peace, removal of the sense of accusation, or even healing.  My notes: Often Jesus said ‘your sins are forgiven’ before a healing( so the person does not feel guilt). I think its good to confess my sins and a plan or affirmation to correct them, and acknowledge that there is a battle for which I need God’s help. Chap. 39 Prophetic Acts. These acts are bridges between heavens’s intent and the earth realm. It’s also a spirit lead movement in the natural realm that brings a change in the spiritual. Here are examples: Joshua and the tribe marching around Jericho, Oil poured over shepherd David’s head to indicate his kingship, Jesus washing the feet of the disciples to teach a lesson of humility, putting the lamb’s blood over your doorway.  The act is born in the mind of God and carried out by a believer, or servant. If done at God’s direction and timing they are quite effective. MY note: so if God directs me to do something symbolic (that may not appear logical), I should go do it.  If  God directed, prayer walking around a school. Not every symbolic act has power, only those prompted by God. Chap. 40 Fasting With fasting our spiritual senses become clearer and our prayers more focused. There are many examples of fasting in the bible. Use it for high level warfare. There are several ways to fast: avoid certain foods, or pleasures, avoid media distractions, couple it with more worship. Chap. 41 Unanswered Prayer. He prayed for many people before having his first miracle healing. So keep praying and do not be discouraged. Chap. 42 The Process of Breakthrough. Many times a sudden breakthrough is the final result of a long difficult process. God is more interested in our growth than our comfort, He wants transformation. Chap. 43 Stand your Ground. Eph. 6:13 says “Having done all to stand” Standing is an act of defiance and resistance against darkness. The enemy is would love for you to believe your waiting is wasted. Stillness does not mean nothing is happening;  It means you have shifted the weight of the fight to God’s control. When the battle shifts your way, you may feeling lightness in your soul, have dream or vision, or a feeling of peace or clarity. When you feel the enemy is in retreat, it’s not time to relax.  You should ask- where and how do I press forward now? Chap. 44 Go. You got this book because you sensed something important. I’d like you to believe it was not a coincidence. If you are just beginning, let me say you are better equipped that you realize; You have the name of Jesus and His authority and the Holy Spirit inside you. You need to start and training will come through doing. Pray for a person you care about; and intercede for one situation on your heart. See what happens; then do it again. If you have been at it for some time, I hope you have learned something new from the book. If you are waiting for results, stand and continue, don’t give up. God knows what you are doing and is with you. You are not a bystander: you have been drafted, equipped and sent. The needs are waiting; Go!
