Wheaton, David, University of Destruction, Bethany House, Minneapolis, MN. 2005
App. 1 gave the results of HERI survey’s in 1989 and 2005 of 4000 students who said they were bone again Christians upon entering college. Four yrs later as many a 50 % were no longer Christians. The losses were highest in Catholic colleges and in private universities. In Chap. 1 he noted rather than being a U of instruction, it can become one of destruction. In college students often face non Christian professors, and peers who want to party and have alcohol, drugs and loose sex. If you are not prepared you may fall to these temptations, form bad habits and lose your faith. Prov. 23:7 “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he”. Chap. 2. There are 3 types of thinkers: Overcomer, compromiser, or pretender. Daniel was and overcomer, David was not. P22-24 defines these. Rev. 3:21 Purposing in your heart to be an overcomer is the first step.
Chap. 3 The 3 perils: Sex; Drugs and Alcohol; Rock and Roll-defined as rebellion. 1Pet. 5:8-9 The devil, roaring lion seeks to devour.
Chap. 4 Professors are those who say they believe, possessors are those who do believe and have a relationship whit God. Test questions are given on p.34-5., p 37 prayer, p .39 vs. and 2 Corin.13:5 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith, test yourselves.
Chap. 5 Sex: Heb. 13:4, 1 Thes. 4:3, Mat. 5:28, James 1:14-15 thoughts- to desire- to sin. Joseph was an overcomer, David was not. Plan for Purity: 1. Commit to moral purity, 2. Guard your eyes, 3. Chap. 6 Drugs and Alcohol: Set a good example of appearance, not to tempt others, refrain. You can’t be under the HS when under alcohol. Eph 5:18
Chap. 8 Music: If it sounds fun listen to it is a falsity. P80 There are 2 parts to music: The Lyrics and the Rhythm; both need to be correct. Bad music is sold by promoting drugs and drink, loose sex, scanty dress, and foul language. Good music is often Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Music requires judgment and matters. Eph.5:18-19
Chap. 9 Rebellion: Many professors are non believers and teach humanism. They are in rebellion, but try to make it appear good and repeat it. They are like the Pharisees- have good credentials but are selling a lie. P 94-99. The universe evolved(wasn’t created by God); truth and morality are relative-also post modernism(not absolute); Humans are inherently good (not sinful). The Universalist says there are many roads-faiths to God; all are good. 1Corin. 1:18-20 Pantheism ( nature an god are one).
Chap. 10. The Game plan: Think God, Peers and Authorities. Show discipline. 2Tim 2:15 “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” Spend time with God and reading the Bible daily. Civil Leaders, Rom. 13:1; Church Leaders, Heb. 13:7; 4 Employers or teachers, Col. 3:22; Tit. 3:1

Chap. 12 Choosing a College. Are you ready for college? You are if you have a clear academic-career objective and you pass the spiritual GPA test. P.152-4. Other options:1. stay at home and work, 2.join the military- it will offer discipline and college- training help. College Choices: The more elite the Uinv., the more secular it will be. A biblical Christian college will often have a biblical worldview; while a liberal Christian college will not. Liberal Christian college can lessen your faith as professors will often question the truth of the Bible and its inerrancy. In a secular college you make fit better in a community or state one and may benefit from staying off campus with Christian friends. The soft science of psychology , sociology, humanities and philosophy are often secular.
